Creating a custom squishy is an incredibly satisfying process. Follow these steps to transform liquid silicone into a bouncy, stress-relieving masterpiece.
What You’ll Need:
Part A & Part B Liquid Silicone (Platinum-Cure)
Silicone Pigments (Optional: for vibrant colors)
Mixing Cups & Stirring Sticks
A Detailed Mold (Silicone or plastic)
Release Agent (If using a non-flexible mold)
Step-by-Step Instructions:
1. Prepare Your Workspace
Ensure your area is clean, dry, and at room temperature (around 25°C). Use a level surface to prevent lopsided toys.
2. The Perfect Ratio (1:1 Mix)
Measure equal parts of Component A and Component B by weight or volume (check your specific product’s instructions). Accuracy is key to ensuring the silicone cures perfectly without sticky spots.
3. Adding Color & Character
Before mixing the two parts together, add a tiny drop of silicone pigment to Part A. Stir well until the color is uniform. You can also add fine glitter for a “galaxy” effect!
4. Mix Thoroughly
Combine Part A and Part B. Stir slowly for 2–3 minutes. Be sure to scrape the sides and bottom of the cup.
Pro Tip: Stir slowly to avoid whipping air into the mixture, which creates unwanted bubbles.
5. The “High Pour” Technique
Pour the liquid silicone into your mold in a long, thin stream from about 30cm (12 inches) above the mold. This helps pop any remaining air bubbles as the silicone falls.
6. Curing & Patience
Let your squishy sit undisturbed. Most liquid silicones for toys take 2–4 hours to set (cure) at room temperature. For the best “slow-rise” results, do not touch it until it is fully firm.
7. De-molding & Finishing
Gently peel the mold away from your new squishy. If it feels slightly tacky, you can apply a light dusting of cornstarch or baby powder to give it a silky-smooth, matte finish.
